Scratchpad is a Markdown-native editor for quick AI interactions. It’s designed for rapid drafts, quick questions, and experiments without the overhead of a full chat session.
How to Access
Click Scratchpad in the sidebar, or use the keyboard shortcut (configurable in Settings → Shortcuts).
Editor Features
The Scratchpad uses a TipTap Markdown editor with:
- Rich text editing with syntax highlighting.
- Document outline sidebar for navigation.
- Source/preview toggle.
- Font family options: Serif, Sans-serif, Monospace.
- Font size levels: 1–5 (14px to 18px).
- Search with Cmd+F / Ctrl+F.
AI Writing Tools
The action bar (right side) provides AI-powered tools:
- Improve Writing: Polish your text.
- List Takeaways: Extract key points.
- Suggest Title: Generate a title.
- Simplify Writing: Make text clearer.
- Expand Writing: Add more detail.
- Complete Text: Continue from where you left off.
- Spell Check: AI-powered spell checking.
- Read Aloud: Text-to-speech playback.
NOTE: These tools work on selected text if any is highlighted, otherwise on the entire document.
Version Archiving
Save snapshots of your document at any point:
- Click the archive icon in the action bar (top-right).
- Select Archive Version.
- Enter a version name (e.g., “Draft 1”, “Final Review”).
- The version is saved.
Recalling a Version
- Click the archive icon again.
- Select a version from the list.
- Choose Recall to restore it (overwrites current content).
- Or choose Delete to remove the version.
Autosave
Enable automatic saving:
- Click the settings icon in the action bar.
- Toggle Enable autosave.
- Content saves automatically 2 seconds after you stop typing.
Save status indicators:
- Red circle: Content modified but not saved.
- Spinner: Currently saving.
- Green checkmark: Successfully saved.
Importing and Exporting
- Import: Click the import button to load from file (TXT, MD, DOCX, PDF).
- Export: Toolbar export button → Markdown (.md) or Word (.docx).
- Copy: Action bar copy button copies to clipboard.
Managing Documents
The sidebar shows all scratchpad documents:
- New button: Create empty scratchpad or import document.
- Right-click for: Rename, Delete.
- Click to switch between documents.
