Chat is the primary interface for conversations with AI models in StationOne. It supports tools, knowledge bases, skills, and advanced features like search, compaction, and multi-tasking.
Text Search in Chat
Find text within your conversation history:
- Press Cmd+Shift+F (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+F (Windows).
- A search bar appears in the top-right of the chat area.
- Type your search query.
- Matches are highlighted in the conversation with a yellow background.
- Navigation shows current match index (e.g., “3 of 5”).
- Click the arrows to jump between matches.
- Press Escape to close the search bar.
Conversation Compaction
Long conversations use many tokens. Compaction summarizes earlier messages while preserving context.
- Click the three-dot menu ( ⋮ ) in the chat header.
- Select Compact.
- A confirmation dialog explains what compaction does.
- Click Compact to proceed.
- The AI summarizes the conversation history.
- You can continue chatting with the compressed context.

Parallel Chats
Work on multiple conversations simultaneously:
- Click New Chat to create an additional chat.
- Switch between chats by clicking them in the left sidebar.
- Each chat maintains its own:
- Message history.
- AI generation state.
- Model and tool selection.
- Generation continues in the background when you switch away.
- Visual indicators show:
- Spinner: Chat is actively generating.
- Badge: Chat has unread messages.
Save Conversation as Agent
Turn any conversation into a reusable agent:
- Click the three-dot menu ( ⋮ ) in the chat header.
- Select Save as Agent.
- Optionally provide guidance (e.g., “Focus on data analysis steps”).
- Click Create Agent.
- The system analyzes the conversation and generates:
- Agent name and description.
- Workflow steps extracted from the conversation.
- Tool and model configuration.
- Review and customize in the Agent Editor, then save.
Other Chat Actions
Available from the three-dot menu ( ⋮ ):
- Compact: Summarize conversation to save tokens.
- Export as Markdown: Download conversation as .md file.
- Export as PDF: Download as PDF.
- Save as Agent: Create agent from conversation.
- Temporary Chat: Mark as temporary (won’t be saved in history).
- Usage: View token usage statistics.
